Introduction
This portfolio is a summary and evaluation of some of the work that I have done throughout the school year. My work will be ranked into categories that I feel the work represents the best. The four categories will be: investigate the world, recognize perspectives, communicate ideas, and take action. The description of each of these categories can be seen below.
Graduation Performance System (GPS)
Students initiate the investigations of the world by framing questions , analyzing, and synthesizing relevant evidence, and drawing reasonable conclusions about globally focused issues.
Students recognize, articulate, and apply an understanding of different perspective (including their own).
Students select and apply appropriate tools and strategies to communicate and collaborate effectively, meeting the needs and expectations of diverse individuals and groups.
Students translate their ideas, concerns, and findings into appropriate and responsible individual collaborative actions to improve conditions.
Reflections of GPS
I don't quite agree with the GPS system because it really only focuses on international interaction and it is quite hard to connect our educational work to these criteria. I would prefer a system that judged our work on how it would help us in the future because although Global awareness is major in out new work of interaction we still need to work on how all of the information we have will hone our skills, skills we will use in the future for our success.
Goals Reflections 2013
The goals that I wrote down last year were to: research more about the colleges I want to assist. In all my goals are focused on me finding more about the far off future. I know now that these goals are not very thorough and if I want to be successful I need to further develop my plans to accomplish my goals. I think that in these new goals I will further develop the goals that I wish to accomplish this year. These will be my fresh new goals!
Goals 2014
1. I wish to increase an understanding of the Korean language, with a faraway goal of learning Korean and studying in South Korea I will start with something manageable. I have started with the small goal of mastering simple Korean verbs. I have already memorized and taught myself how to read and write the Korean alphabet. In this goal I will look into verb markers and the different honorifics that are used and I hope that when I accomplish this goal adequately I can conjugate present tense verbs and recognize them in spoken Korean.
2. I want to increase my grades from a few A's and several B's to All A's. With this goal I will increase my chances of getting an acceptance letter for any scholarships for which I apply for, it will also give me a better chance to get into the school of my choice. I will increase my grades slowly so that I don't get discouraged, I will start by accustoming myself to recording all of my homework and projects then I will also check my grades weekly so that I always know where I stand with my grades. Hopefully if I do this correctly I will not only better my grades but I will also create successful habits that I will need for a successful future.
3. Finally I want to increase my exposure to the world, I want to take advantage of all of the opportunities that there are for travel and experience for a relatively cheep price. I have all of these opportunities floating around me and all I have to do is reach out and grasp one. I will start communicating more with the teachers so that I am aware of any opportunities that they might know about. I will also reserve a day a month to do some research. I hope that with enough work I can find a scholarship that will increase my interaction with other people. So far I filled out an application for the NSLI program by AFS that promotes the emergence to new foreign languages in the east.
Goals 2014 - 2015
1. This year I did work on the goals that I had set up, I was able to find a Korean class that has helped me increase my knowledge of Korean like I had originally set out to do. With this class I have gained connections that I can use to test my understanding of Korean, they also taught me how to conjugate present and past tense verbs. I have been able to increase my Korean vocabulary and my exposure to the culture. Next semester I will be taking the harder classes and now for my new goal I hope to expand my knowledge so that I can now conjugate future tense verbs.
2. I was able to raise my grades to all A's although I was only able to do it a report card before the final one. My grades for that report card are all A's, so far I think I have done better at the end of this year. I raised my grades to all A's and I studied for the AP world History exam and I don't usually study for an exam so that is an improvement. I still procrastinate quite a bit but I have noticed a bit of an improvement since last year. For this new goal is to be able to find a balance between my HAIS grades and my HCC grades, I hope that I will be able to raise all of my grades to all as by the beginning of the second semester next year.
3. This year I did do a bit better to realize what sort of opportunities I have, I applied to the German scholarship and although it did not work out I am glad that I applied because it is a step closer to getting accustomed to applying and searching for scholarships. Later this year I will reapply for the NSLIY scholarship and also look out for a scholarship that I might be able to apply to from my Korean school. I have also researched for programs that I can apply to after high school and I have picked on that I want to try, an interesting program that I can apply to after I get my associates.
Associates Degree Plan AA (AS)
- I will use my associates degree to apply for the TALK program that sends students to Korea to teach english, I will probably stay in korea for a year using the program to increase my knolege of Korean language and culture.
- My Associates degree is set up to prepare me for a career in a mixture of Anthropology, Architecture, Interior Design and research of culturaly significant buildings; classes that will help me are Economics, Anthopology, Physics, Psychology, Sociology, History, and Humanities.
