Description of Project
The project I chose for this category is Ms. Gillespie's reading project. In this project we had to read a story, identify at least 10 words that we did not understand from the story , and then answer a series of questions that helped us reflect on the characters within the story that we were reading. Because the questions helped us reflect on how the characters acted and why they did the things they did we were eased into trying to understand their perspective in life.
LEAD09-10.PER1: As we read the book we began to create our own perspective of what was happening in the story, this perspective was warped by how the main character or narrator was describing the events with in the story. Although we did nt realize it there were many factors that were affecting how we viewed the world of our story. (College Ready)
LEAD09-10.PER2: Based on the different characters in the story we had to try to explain how and why the perspectives were different. We had to try to explain why the access they had to gather information, and other resources affected the way that they perceived the environment around them. (College Ready)
LEAD09-10.PER3: In the project some of the questions that we had to answer asked us about how the character had grown or evolved during the story. In order to properly answer the question we had to try and understand the circumstances from where the character came from and how it reacted to the new or the changes in the environment. Because we began to consider how the characters were affected by the events and surroundings with in their stories we also began to realize what was affecting us in our environment. (College Ready)
LEAD09-10.PER4: Other questions in the project helped us also understand the perspective of other characters apart from the main character. These questions helped us be aware of multiple perspectives, interpret data and events. The questions that we had to answer helped us understand how the perspectives can sometimes warp events and facts. (Developing)
Description of Project
For this project I chose the Poem Project that was assigned to us by Ms. Fisher. In this project we researched two poems by a poet and we analyzed the writing style, literary devices and more so that we could better understand what is being conveyed by the poet. Since we were looking into the poem we also had to look into the poet and his history and how it related to the poem. After all that we analyzed and researched for the project we became experts on our poems so that we could understand the perspective of the poet. As we were analyzing this we also had to think about our impressions of the poet and the poems, bringing in our own perspective into the project.
LEAD09-10.PER1: As I worked on this project I had to begin by reading two poems by the same poet. As I did this I had to think about my original view when I read the story. What reactions did I have when I read the poems for the first time? What assumptions did I make? How does this relate to the story? I had to consider my own perspective of the poems before starting the project.
LEAD09-10.PER2: After I finished reading it I had to do research on the poems, things I had to consider would be the perspectives of different people thing that other people saw, imagined and though when they read the poems. When I finished that research I would have expanded my views of the poem and understood a lot more that I had originally found.
LEAD09-10.PER3: When I worked on this project I had to understand the way that perspectives influence how people interpret the world and what they see in it. I had to think of this as I read my poems, what was the poet's perspective? What did he want to convey with this poem, what did he see in his own poem? I had to understand the poet to better understand the meaning of the poem.
LEAD09-10.PER4: Using all of the information that I found about all of these different people, the poet, the audience, and myself I had to mix them together and with that I would have an insight on what everybody saw in the poems, I would understand more about the way people perceive the world. In this project I understood how important it is to have different perspectives.
Description of Project
This project was assigned to our A.P World History class by Mr. Sears. The purpose of this project was to conduct a scholarly discussion of an essential question in which student opinions are shared, proven, refuted, and refined through dialogue with other students. A few days before a Socratic seminar was scheduled Mr. Sears would suggest assign some information that we should read for the topic of the Socratic seminar. I believe this project fits well into the Recognize Perspectives section because we had to recognize, articulate, and apply an understanding of different perspectives including our own.
LEAD09-10.PER1: During the Socratic seminar I was able to give some of my own information that I considered relevant to the question or the theme that had been posed, I was also able to re-summarize information in my own way, this could also help somebody else in the group who had not understood the information that had been presented.
LEAD09-10.PER2: After I had read the information about the different schools of thought of other people I had to show understanding of their works during the Socratic seminar in a way that would advance the discussion.
LEAD09-10.PER3: The way everybody collaborated and added to the conversation showed every bodie's perspectives and many times it also altered the ways that some people perceive the them or the information discussed.
LEAD09-10.PER4: As we discussed information for the Socratic seminar we interpreted what the information is trying to convey and how their information is significant in the time period that we are discussing.
