Description of Project
I chose my community service club for this category because I created this club as a way to translate my ideas, concerns, and findings into appropriate and responsible individual or collaborative actions to improve conditions for students just like me. I had seen that HAIS was sadly lacking in education about the volunteer hours needed to graduate and so I decided to create this club to try and address those needs.
LEAD09-10.ACT1: In this club our main focus is to help HAIS students gain opportunities to gain service hours. When I created this club I had to consider what needs the club was trying to fulfill for HAIS students, which is the need for volunteer opportunities. Then next I had to try and set up collaborative or group opportunities for the students in our group to volunteer together. Finally I had to try and help the students in my club find their own opportunities to volunteer. (Developing)
LEAD09-10.ACT2: One of our most frequent visits was to the Food Bank, they taught us about where the work that we were making was going to go to. We were also improving the conditions for another person. The work that we did which was, to create lunch bags for children just like us, so that they could take over the weekend. This project reaches out and helps children not only in our local neighborhood but it also reaches other parts of Houston. (Proficient)
LEAD09-10.ACT3: My group and I collaborate to try and provide our service tho different organizations, each of these organizations focuses on improving the conditions of people around Houston. The impact of what we did can be seen in the succes of the program that we volunteered at. Although what we do is small, compared to what the other organizations we volunteer for do, we still helped out in a small way. (Developing)
LEAD09-10.ACT4: Going and volunteering at places like the Children's Hospital and the Food Bank, helps us understand what kind of work it takes to make these organizations succesful. When we participated in the warehouse program for the food bank they told us at the end of our shift how many backpacks we made, and this helps us know how many people we helped by creating these bags. Description of Project
I used the position paper I had to write in MUN because I believe it fits perfectly into this category. In this project we had to read information on a global problem. We had to consider the concerns of our country as we created a position paper in the view that we were a representative of a UN country trying to take a stand on the subject of the Rwandan genocide. Since we had to think as if we are the country we have to consider the ideas that our country had on how to handle the problems and improve the conditions of the Rwandan people and also had to include our findings throughout our research into the paper.
LEAD09-10.ACT1: With this paper we were trying to find and identify possible solutions to solve or improve an event, issue, or phenomena in the form of a mock official UN paper.
LEAD09-10.ACT2: We researched a lot for this particular paper and assessed options and plan actions based on evidence that indicates potential for impact.
LEAD09-10.ACT3: In this paper we proposed collaboration between people or more like actual countries that would benefit both parties and work to solve a problem such as the Rwandan Genocide.
LEAD09-10.ACT4: Looking at our own country we tried to find ways in which he had tried to solve similar problems, the mistakes we had made and what we could fix to improve our response and success at solving or helping the problem.
Description of Project
This project was assigned by Ms. Honore as a fill in assignment. The purpose of this assignment was to enter a virtual reality where you are given certain jobs that you must do, through out the duration of this game you are tested in the basics of ethics and safe management. The main theme of the game is that you are working with a city to clean up an oil spill/ prevent oil spills and try to find who is embezzeling money from the city.
LEAD09-10.ACT1: I am supposed to collect information, sources and connections that will help me solve the issue at hand. Therefore I am creating and identifying opportunities for individual action to improve a situation.
LEAD09-10.ACT2: As I go around this virtual world I am collecting information or evidence that I will use to make decisions of how I will handle the situations that I am being presented with and show that I have thought of what I want to do extensively and carefully considering all the impacts of my decision.
LEAD09-10.ACT3: Since I am working with a team I am collaboratively collecting data that is aimed at solving a singular problem, what to do with the problem of oil spills and lack of ethics. This question is one that is asked around the world.
LEAD09-10.ACT4: After the game was finished I was given a summary of how I did during the program, using this information I was given the opportunity to reflect on what I could improve on and what I had done incorrectly or had done in an ineffective way.
